High-quality afterschool programming leverages hands-on learning experiences and community connections to prepare youth for success in college and the workforce.

Afterschool programs inspire youth – especially disadvantaged youth – to more actively engage in their learning and reach for higher goals. Recent research demonstrates how essential these attitudes are to quality of work later in life.

Starting Point is the lead agency developing a repository of services, identify gaps and barriers to services and provide technical assistance to struggling programs.   In the early stages, the plan focuses on activities for youth when they are not in school such as recreation, tutoring, leadership and civic opportunities, job training and employment readiness.
