A classroom and online training in digital media and storytelling for middle and high school students

Everyone has a voice.
“Everyone” includes YOU.

What you say and think is important, and people should respect your opinions. But in today’s world, you need to prove that you’re worth listening to. (The cool thing is, once you learn a few technical skills, your voice can and will be heard.)

MyMedia, a project of the MyCom network, trains youth from Greater Cleveland’s middle and high schools to report on health and safety needs from their own neighborhoods, to promote increased youth voice in our area’s public conversation. MyCom offers MyMedia classes, but also has the tools from the classroom online, right here, for you.

This website will guide you through a lot of the curriculum covered in the MyMedia class sessions. You’ll find videos of guest speakers; links to helpful articles and online tutorials; tips and tricks for reporting, writing and multimedia editing; and a bunch of other fun stuff.

Want to be an editor at The Plain Dealer one day? How about a reporter doing post-game interviews for the Cleveland Cavaliers? Maybe a Hollywood director? A radio personality? An IT specialist? A hip-hop producer? A private investigator?

The building blocks for SO MANY careers start right here. With these skills, not only will you be able to tell the stories most important to you and your community; you just might discover a true calling.
